The Ostrich Song

Audience participation (chorus singing)

v.1. They’re watching us, I know they are, I feel it in me bankcard,
Every time I slot it in the slot.
Computers clicking everywhere will tell them all I know
About what I’ve spent, and where, with whom, on what!
I thought I’d stage a little coup, and not repay last month.
What’s one more motor mower that’s broken down?
But they’ve locked me in this little room, won’t even give me lunch.
You’d have thought I’d ripped off half the bloody town.

Chorus 1: (three monkeys!)
It’s so peacefull. I feel peacefull.
Everything is peacefull in the meantime. X2

v.2. Now Canberra is a funny sort of place to get to know,
Funny things are going on there al;l the time.
When any more than three are in the same place they say, “so
Take the plastic money, go and buy some wine!”
Then the government computers print out where the action is
And an official person’s secretary to the car pool’s assistant mistress comes to mingle with the throng(with the throng),
And it got to second reading that the one thing left to do
Was to sit around and sing this little song.
“This is a bill to pass an amendment to the second chorus. All those in favour of the amendment pass to the right of the chair. All those against, bugger off! I think the eyes have it.”

Chorus 2: (hundreds of monkeys)
It’s all right mate. She’ll be apples.
Not to worry, everything will be O.K.
It’s a bewdy. Crack another tinny.
Everything will come up roses any day.

v.3. Now it puzzles me why anybody wants to be in power,
It’s a luxury that I can live without.
Cut and thrust and fix or fuck it*, every day for twenty hours.
I reckon they must be mad, without a doubt.
But war’s a bigger puzzle, whether white, brown, black or pink,
There’s some stupid bastard always there.
It’s the ammunition, weapons, world bank, money market stink,
But pretty soon they’ll all be pissing in the air.

Both choruses together – It’s so peacefull . . .
It’s all right mate . . .

v.4. Now Australia lurched forward in another century
Voting for the biggest promissory note.
We all know who we are, ‘cause we got backdoor I.D.s
From the people who want everybody’s vote!
Now living in the future’s not a thing that’s to be feared,
It’s happening to us every single day (single day).
So although we might see worse before the better times appear,
There will come a time when we can truly say,
With rejoicing
Both choruses together.
