(Gumboot Dance)
Badly bodily bay . ... .
Badly bodily bee ... . .
Bodily bye, engine ting!
Bodily bo, tong ...
Badly bodily boo.(see comment below)

Chorus 1:
It’s the options that drive you crazy.
A cynic is never wrong.
Fill out the form-al.
Call yourself Norm-al,
Sing a little gumboot song.

v.1. Sitting in your kitchen at 2:53 am.
Talking to a cockroach and a cat.
L istening to the ticking of a clock that’s just run down –
Being on the Dole can be like that.
Chorus 2:
It’s the options that drive you crazy.
Some of them are short term, some are long.
If your jobs not what you like, come and jump upon the bike
And sing a little gumboot song.

v.2. There are Things that may be chosen, or opinions to be voiced.
Prison without the option of a fine.
There’s the Liberty of Choosing, and the Freedom of my Choice,
Not obligatory, but quite essentially mine, mine, mine!
Chorus 3:
It’s the options that drive you crazy.
Will this end up a poem or a song?
If they take away your voice, then you haven’t any choice
But to sing a little gumboot song

Repeat gumboot dance

v.3. There’s the option of migrating or of staying here and now.
There’s self-sufficiency and all of that.
There’s the strategems of fortune, or of banknotes on your tie,
Or do private dreams take part in where it’s at?
(where is it at?)
Chorus 4:
It’s the options that drive you crazy.
Everyone who’s crazy can’t be wrong.
If you’re there behind your face, you can soon fill up the space
If you sing a little gumboot song.
If you sing . . . a little gum – boot . . . song.

Performed by Silly Symphony in the eighties, we always got the entire audience do participate in the gumboot song and dance.
I was always amazed. Left foot first now.
