"A levee is not a tax" . . .
A levee is opportunity.
It raises the threshold of facts
and gives them a new integrity.

A levee is not a tax.
We take money, you give it.
You want the laws to relax
Or tighten to the limit?

A levee is not a tax.
The promise is not broken.
We want safety nationwide,
A real law, not a token.

A levee is not a tax.
A gun is not a machete,
a bow and arrow, or an axe.
Can't shoot bullets if I can't get any!

A levee is not a tax.
A promise is not a wishlist.
And what the gun lobby lacks
in morality, they make up in brashness.

A levee is not a tax,
and killing takes just one shot,
and these repeated attacks
will continue, like as not.

A levee is not a tax.
Ring the cops, or armed forces brigades.
If there's shooting that has to be done,
Bring their guns to society's aid.

I'll contribute to such a levee
whether conscripted or free,
'cause in fact, wherever I'm living
It's no guns at all for me.
